Fresh milk from our dairy farmers
Our dairy farmers are important partners in the production process for our certified organic products
Delicious, high-quality milk from our region forms the basis for our excellent Swiss dairy products, which delight with their incomparable flavour. It is reassuring to know that our committed milk suppliers share the same dedication to quality and naturalness as we do. The partnership with our milk suppliers is therefore particularly important to us. Our well-functioning network of farms within a radius of 45 kilometres is the key to high-quality products.
Judith and Christian Zeller, Demeter dairy farmers
65, cattle, 120 chickens, dozens of fruit trees and bees are united on the Zellerhof farm in Speicher AR. However, the focus here is less on agricultural yields and much more on the natural balance between animals, people and nature. Christian Zeller, a farmer, is particularly keen to keep the natural cycle alive and promote it. There are countless examples of this on the 37-hectare farm: organic meadows, nature conservation areas and species-rich hedges provide a habitat for important beneficial insects and wildflowers, natural fertiliser is produced on countless compost heaps made from manure, farmyard and medicinal plants, and the farm's own bee colonies pollinate more than 100 standard trees. ‘We want to farm as environmentally friendly, animal-friendly and sustainable as possible and therefore converted the farm from organic to Demeter in 2017,’ emphasises Zeller. Demeter, the oldest and globally recognised organic label, has the strictest guidelines and is based on biodynamic agriculture. ‘Nature, humans and animals strengthen each other. We don't use any synthetic chemical additives, but only natural preparations that we spray on the soil and plants or add to the fertiliser,’ he summarises.
Andri Furrer, sheep farmer
Andri Furrer has around 180 sheep and delivers around 45,000 litres of milk to Molkerei Biedermann. He farms 30 hectares of meadowland in mountain zone 2 and feeds the sheep exclusively with grass, hay and grass silage. Concentrated feed is only used as a lure to attract the sheep to the milking parlour. The barn used for dairy sheep farming was built by Andri Furrer's grandfather.
Andri Furrer is the 11th generation to run the farm. In 2014, he celebrated 300 years of Furrer in Schmidrüti. The farm includes 33 hectares of forest. Schmidrüti lies at 820 metres above sea level in the heart of the Töss Valley, above Wila, but politically belongs to the municipality of Turbenthal.
Debora and David Meister, Demeter dairy farmers
Debora and David Meister supply the Molkerei Biedermann with Demeter milk from the Steigackerhof farm in Kefikon, Thurgau. The farm comprises around 19.5 hectares of land. This includes arable land, meadows and pastures as well as forest and orchards. The 24 dairy cows at Steigackerhof are milked every morning and evening. If necessary, they are mainly treated homeopathically. Debora and David run the farm with the basic idea of natural, animal-friendly and sustainable production methods and have been certified according to organic and Demeter standards.
Hürlimann family, dairy farmers
The Hürlimann family supplies Molkerei Biedermann with organic milk from their organic farm in Goldach SG, Switzerland. In addition to cows, the Hürlimann family also keeps hens and 15 bee colonies. They also harvest cherries, plums, pears and apples. They cultivate their 29 hectares of agricultural land with passion and in harmony with nature.
